yo la hannukah mix by yoni wolf of why?

WHY? is a weird, weird band, and that’s why I dig them. I first encountered them when a coworker at the public library I worked at in college gave me Elephant Eyelash and was surprised to find it was nothing like I’d ever heard. M|H has been featuring WHY?’s work over the years and when we saw they were coming to town to play a free show at the Sett in Union South with Astronautalis and Dream Tiger we jumped on the chance to have them make us a mixtape, and WHY? founder Yoni Wolf passed along his Yo La Hannukah mix to us. Be sure to check out WHY?’s website for more tour dates, videos, and Yoni’s blog.

young empires mix

Young Empires is on tour and coming to Madison and we asked them to make us a mixtape before their show on Wednesday, February 6th at The Frequency. The band’s contribution turned out better than we could hope for, expertly mixed and with an amazing flow. We’ve been sitting on the mix for a week waiting for the track list and a name, but we can’t keep it from you any longer. Give it a listen, get pumped, and check back to see if we were able to fill in the gaps of what we couldn’t sleuth out. When we released the mix earlier this week we didn’t have a full track list, but we’ve got it now and are further impressed with its expert craft. Please enjoy and let us know what you think (and be sure to give the boys a big thank you for giving us such a wonderful mix)!

berlin rain – a mix from zulu pearls

Zulu Pearls’s debut, No Heroes No Honeymoons, was instantly one of my favorite records of the year. After listening to it obsessively for a week, I knew I had to ask ZP’s songwriter Zach Van Hoozer to make M|H a mixtape. Chilled out and wistful, it’s an excellent listen as autumn days fade to gray.

From Zach:
Just got back to Berlin, where it’s dark at 4 PM and raining, this quick mix sums up my vibe at the moment…best save it for a rainy day.
