Our pals Jones Street Station launched their Perennials project yesterday, and we have to say it’s a pretty rad idea. For each week of the next year, JSS will post a new song. For each month, they’ll focus on a charity. With every month, you end up with a nice little EP and several chances to donate to some great causes – Charity Water, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), Musicians on Call, Cause Effective, Rosie’s Place, Camp Interactive, Old Town School of Folk Music, Housing Works, The Trevor Project, Para Los Ninos, and Evacuteer.org.
The project came about as a collaboration across state lines – as members of the band moved out of Brooklyn and settled into their own studios, their process had to evolve if they wanted to keep making music together. Despite the distance they’re still in tune – the first Perennials track “For A Lifetime” is just as lovely as anything they’ve ever done.
We love when music can be something bigger than itself, and couldn’t love Jones Street Station more for taking on such an ambitious project with generosity at its heart. Be sure to check back at the JSS site every week for a new song and a new opportunity to help give.
