What is this site about?
Music-related things: reviews (albums, books, concerts, etc), interviews, interesting videos, and our hallmark – the art of the mixtape.

No one has tape players anymore.
One: that’s not a question. Two: shush. Three: realize you’re on the internet and you’ll have to use your imagination.

Why don’t you update more?
I do what I can, when I can. If you’d like to give me piles of money so I can stop working and devote all my time to music, I’d be happy to update more.

Reading is hard. Why aren’t there numbers or stars that go with your reviews so I can immediately see if something is worth my time?
Looking back at past reviews, I’ve often found that though I still agree with what I said, I often disagree with the number I assigned to it. When I compare two things I reviewed at the same time, the one I gave the higher number doesn’t always hold up. I could quickly scan through a disc or a book and get an idea of what’s going on and slap a number on it, but I don’t think that’s fair to the artist or to the reader. Everything reviewed get’s a 100% listen/read/watch through, and it takes more than a number for me to express what I thought. Also, journalists are kind-of (okay, in most cases extremely) self-centered, and by eliminating numbers/stars it forces you dear readers to actually read what I wrote. Huzzah.

What gives you the authority to get on your high horse and tell everyone what is good and what isn’t?
Nothing, but I’m not a total hack. I’ve been listening to music for the last 23 years, can sing pretty well, and have played a few instruments in my day. I spent four years booking bands and at least that many writing about them for publications such as The Morning Call [Pennsylvania’s third largest newspaper!] and Emmie Magazine. As far as the writing thing goes, I am the proud owner of a JBA in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin. Also, several people have told me I make a mean mixtape.

Some of the stuff you review is old. Why?
Especially with books, it’s hard to keep up. Also, reviewing some older materials gives people a chances to find out about it if they missed it the first time around.

You used my music/image/etc and I want you to remove it. What can I do?
All you have to do is email me and let me know. mixtapesandheartbreaks@gmail.com
If you are concerned about someone being able to DL your music found in a mixtape, don’t worry: it’s streaming only. However, if you still do object, I will remove it.

I like what you do. Can I pay you to write articles for my publication?
Indeed. Email me at mixtapesandheartbreaks@gmail.com.

Can I write for you?
Maybe. Email me at mixtapesandheartbreaks@gmail.com and we’ll go from there.

Will you review my album/book/etc, or interview me?
Probably. Email me and we’ll see. This site leans towards things in the indie/rock/emo genres, but I like lots of different types of music so it never hurts to try.

How long has Mixtapes|Heartbreaks been around?
M|H was borne out of the boredom that accompanied Thanksgiving weekend, 2006.
