awesome art for a good cause

A re-posted note from the lovely and talented Beth:

My drawing called “Bruce and Monroe” is up for auction!! (starts tomorrow Nov 26)
I drew this, pen on drumhead, while on tour with Motion City Soundtrack. It is signed and dated by me and the Motion City Soundtrack fellas. I have written “Bruce and Monroe” on the bottom edge of the drumhead, so people will know the name of this drawing. I’m very proud of this piece and hope it ends up in a great home!
The auction starts tomorrow and all proceeds go to the Keep A Breast Foundation.
click on the pictures for more information and to go to the auction. (the Auction starts tomorrow Nov 26 and that’s when the link will take you directly to the auctions)
Thanks!!
Beth

The Keep A Breast Foundation has partnered with Fox and Unite the United to present Shot In the Pit, a fundraising initiative through Keep A Breast’s Music For Awareness program. Combining art, photography, music, and philanthropy, Shot In the Pit is a touring exhibition featuring band photos from the legendary summer music festival Vans Warped Tour® taken by photographer Erin Caruso. The exhibitions take place at five venues from New York to Los Angeles beginning October 21- December 4, 2008.

As the Pit Reporter from Vans Warped Tour, Caruso was up close and personal with the bands on the road. From her photo sessions this summer, she has donated over 45 images to the Keep A Breast Foundation. Unite the United will facilitate an online auction of images from the exhibition alongside music memorabilia and breast casts beginning November 26 – December 6th at www.kabmfa.org 100% of the proceeds generated from the touring exhibition and the online auction will be donated to the Keep A Breast Foundation’s youth awareness and outreach efforts.

i been here so long my heart is a parking lot

Sometimes live music has the ability to be bigger than itself. Bigger than the band, bigger than the audience, bigger than what’s happening right before one’s eyes. At the Majestic in Madison, WI, Wolf Parade managed to do just that on November 10, 2008.

Throughout the evening, Wolf Parade whipped out jam after jam, keeping the energy consistently high. The Majestic was packed with rabid fans, each opening note eliciting an impassioned cheer from the crowd. The five gents of Wolf Parade were clearly enjoying themselves, often thanking the crowd and graciously accepting the adulation. Adulation that was well-deserved – “Language City”, “I’ll Believe in Anything”, “Fine Young Cannibals”, and “Kissing the Beehive” were all absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way.

Be you a huge fan or curious newcomer, Wolf Parade has the chops and panache to elevate the evening into a transcendent experience. Live, the songs are utterly danceable and more multi-dimensional than their canned counterparts (which are, by the way, quite lovely). It is not often a performance can make your heart feel at once completely filled and impossibly light, but as was proved yesterday, is something that is entirely possible.

that’s not my name anymore. it’s geoffrey. geoffrey velvet.

Wilco is great. Especially when they’re free.

Why have we disappeared? Because we’ve been working tirelessly in our city clerk’s office getting ready for the election. Make our efforts of the last 6 weeks worthwhile by VOTING TODAY!

We’ll resume our duties on the music front once we recover from the election.
